Windows

This morning when I awoke
the sky was lighter than my mind

And I knew today I’d die

I knew I’d die today

because the birds were louder
their sweet songs sweeter

You said when you saw me
I’d like to meet her

Never knowing I’d die

You didn’t know I’d die today

All of us were waiting
for fire roaring in the sky

We were waiting for meteor showers
and sickness and famine and a man

in black to take all the bad
people away

Is God so small
Is God so big
Is God so hard on His creation
Is God so easy

This morning when I awoke
God wrapped His arms around me

like a big, warm blanket
and kissed me on the cheek

The birds sang for Him
but I just lie there wondering

why the light through my bedroom window had to be so bright
